Hewlett-Packard Company today announced that Olympic gold medalist and WNBA player Sheryl Swoopes will act as children's literacy advisor for HP's online digital book club, which was launched last week.
As advisor, Swoopes will address the importance of reading and literacy among young people. In her own efforts, Swoopes works to spread a message challenging young people to set high goals, work hard and pursue dreams. Swoopes says the HP Digital Book Club shares this ideal, inspiring young people with an interest in books and literature.
"Through my own experiences, I have learned the importance of encouraging kids to realize the greatness inside them," said Swoopes. "The HP Digital Book Club is an online environment where young people can use the technology they know so well to enhance their reading and writing skills."
The HP Digital Book Club is a Web site designed for young people ages 8-18 to capitalize on their interest in the Internet while encouraging reading and writing. The Web site includes a wealth of information, such as links to reading and writing sites, literature lists and writing tips from famous authors.
