Holiday Inn Express To Launch In-Room Magazine

Posted on May 6, 1998

Holiday Inn Express announced it will launch Navigator, an in-room magazine which will be available in the more than 700 properties in the Express system. A bimonthly general interest magazine, Navigator will debut this summer with the June/July issue. The publication was created to help smart travelers find their way -- navigating the country, life's pleasures and life itself.

"Perhaps the most exciting thing about Navigator is that Express is the only hotel brand to offer its guests a concept like this in terms of content and interest," said John Sweetwood, president of Holiday Inn Express. "The uniqueness of the concept, and the magazine itself, is one more way that Express stands out above the rest in the limited-service hotel segment."

An integral part of the first-ever Express specific marketing program, Navigator communicates to a captive audience -- guests who have already chosen Express hotels -- and encourages them to come back. "The magazine will increase awareness of brand benefits among our guests," said Sweetwood.

Contributors to Navigator include authors who have written for publications such as Entertainment Weekly, Fortune, Sports Illustrated and Outdoor Life. Each issue will cover a wide range of topics including sports, entertainment and food. In addition, there will be photo essays; news on traveling trends, tips and gear; information about maps and mapping; and guides to U.S. and international events and attractions.
