Heineken launches Design Contest 1998

Posted on April 23, 1998

Heineken has launched a new international design and product development contest called 'Design Contest 1998'. The event is aimed at creative talent (above legal drinking age) from various disciplines, like art schools, marketing degrees and communications studies. Individuals, teams and even schools can enter.

The 'Design Contest 1998' follows the 'Futurist of the Year' - contest in 1996, in which young adults were asked to predict future trends. 'Design contest 98' is an international initiative to involve creative individuals in a real product development process. Heineken feels that the Internet defines many changes and trends taking place. For this reason the second largest beer brewer in the world has decided to invite creative talent to 'design a new beer brand'. The contest is organized by Mathura.Verhart.Van Der Linden.

The best design will win US$ 4,500, and will get the chance to be invited by Heineken to participate in a second product development stage. The second prize is US$ 3,000 and the third prize US$ 2,000. Fifty runners up will have their name placed in the nominee gallery and will receive a surprise for their hard work. The contest ends on October 1st 1998.

An overview of the judges, the rules and the way to enter the contest can be found on the 'Design Contest 98' site. In the site an interaction section is included, where participants get the opportunity to send messages to the contest organisation, to leave quotes, to submit a number of links that are interesting for fellow participants and to see how many people have entered.
