Hearst New Media Unveils MoneyMinded 2.0

Posted on April 15, 1998

Hearst New Media and Technology today unveiled MoneyMinded 2.0, an online guide to help women plan, make smart decisions and take control of their financial lives.

The MoneyMinded site was designed to meet women's need for a dedicated money management resource, as their earning power increases and financial planning challenges multiply. Currently, women represent 46% of the workforce, one-third of all business owners and 38% of equity shareholders. However, despite their significant income, they are still more vulnerable than men to financial misfortune. Women earn only $.70 to each male dollar, and, compared to men, spend fewer years in the workforce, invest more cautiously and up to 17% less, and make fewer provisions for retirement.

"Hearst took a look at the on-line and print media and recognized a significant void when it came to useful and credible money management advice for women," said Kathryn Creech, Vice President of Hearst New Media and Technology and General Manager of Hearst's HomeArts Network. "We decided to be the first to explore women's lifestyle issues from a financial perspective."
