Harcourt General Names Levy President, COO of Harcourt Brace

Harcourt General, Inc. announced that James P. Levy has been named president and chief operating officer of its Harcourt Brace educational and professional publishing and services subsidiary. Mr. Levy, who has been president of Harcourt Brace's Education and Lifelong Learning and Assessment Groups, succeeds Brian J. Knez as president. Mr. Knez will retain his title as chief executive officer of Harcourt Brace.

Mr. Levy, 58 years old, joined Harcourt Brace in 1992 as group vice president with responsibilities for the educational publishing businesses. In 1997 he was promoted to president of the Education Group and assumed additional responsibilities as president of the Lifelong Learning and Assessment Group. Prior to joining Harcourt Brace, Mr. Levy was president and chief executive officer of the Macmillan/McGraw-Hill Publishing Company's School Division. He also previously served as president and general manager of McGraw-Hill's Higher Education Division and president of Scott, Foresman's College Division.

The Company also announced that John R. Dilworth, 58 years old, will succeed Mr. Levy as president of Harcourt Brace's Lifelong Learning and Assessment Group. Mr. Dilworth joined Harcourt Brace in 1984 and has been group vice president of Lifelong Learning and Assessment since July 1997. He was previously president of The Psychological Corporation, Harcourt Brace's testing and assessment business.
