Haights Cross Communications, an educational and professional publisher, announced its acquisition of Sundance Publishing, L.P., an affiliate of The Wicks Group of Companies, Inc.

Sundance is a well-established publisher of supplementary instructional materials in reading and literature for the K-12 market. Founded in 1971 and based in Littleton, Massachusetts, Sundance has a long and successful history as a publisher and distributor of literature-based products for elementary and secondary schoolteachers. In recent years it has become a major source of reading-instruction products for teachers and students in grades PreK-4.

"I'm most impressed by the diversity and high quality of the products Sundance has produced," said Haights Cross Chairman Peter Quandt. "They effectively meet the needs of teachers across the entire range of reading methods, from phonics to Reading Recovery, from guided reading to literature-based approaches." Quandt also commented on the highly developed direct marketing expertise used by Sundance to bring its product successfully to market, calling it "the best in the business."

Haights Cross is the owner of Newbridge Educational Publishing, a leading publisher of supplementary educational materials in reading and science, which it acquired in December 1997 from Primedia, Inc. In the last two months, Haights Cross also acquired Dreyfuss Hunt Inc., a health and wellness newsletter publisher with over one million subscribers, and Data Research Inc., a leading publisher of legal information for educators and selected business professionals.
