Posted on March 19, 1998

The Greater Detroit Newspaper Network (GDNN) has further expanded its coverage into Michigan's Thumb area, acquiring The Harbor Beach Times and its sister publication, The Port Austin Times. The publications serve the eastern half of Huron County, located in the northern Thumb area. Frank Shepherd, president and chief executive officer of 21st Century Newspapers Inc., the parent company of the GDNN, made the announcement.

The addition of The Harbor Beach Times and The Port Austin Times complements GDNN's existing Thumb-area presence of The Newsweekly. Together, the three Huron County weeklies have a paid circulation of 8,600. "This acquisition strengthens our position in Eastern Michigan and continues our growth in Michigan's Thumb," Shepherd said. "We are pleased to add these quality publications to the 21st Century family."
