ESPN Magazine Announces Senior Editors

ESPN Magazine Editor in Chief John Papanek announced the appointment of Jon Pessah as deputy editor, as well as the appointments of several senior editors. Pessah transitions to the new magazine after spending two years as news editor of ESPN Total Sports where he edited and assigned stories for the special issue publications. Previously, Pessah was an assistant managing editor for sports at Newsday, guiding the department to several APSE awards. Prior to Newsday, he spent nine years at the Hartford Courant as deputy sports editor and sports editor.

Pessah will help administer the editorial staff and will oversee the magazine's coverage of professional basketball. The new senior editors include: Terry Egan, formerly the NHL columnist for the Dallas Morning News, joins the magazine as senior editor of hockey, auto racing and tennis. Neil Fine joins the staff as senior editor of the magazine's front-of-the-book sections and horse racing. John Hassan will serve as the magazine's senior editorial liaison to the ESPN network and will be based at ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Conn. Roxanne Jones joins the staff as senior editor of professional football and boxing. Pamela Miller will be the senior editor for Olympics, extreme sports and soccer. Chris Raymond, another veteran and visionary of ESPN Total Sports, comes to the magazine as senior editor of college sports. Glen Waggoner will oversee the magazine's baseball and golf coverage.

ESPN Magazine, launching March 11, 1998, will utilize ESPN's award-winning variety of sports news resources combined with fast-paced, timely, in-depth commentary and opinion. Sporting a 10 x 12-inch format, the magazine will publish biweekly. ESPN Magazine is a joint venture of Disney Publishing, ESPN and Hearst.
