Employee Fired for Eating Pizza Wins Simply Fired Contest

Posted on September 8, 2005

Jim Garrison, a computer engineer who was fired for eating pizza that he was apparently not suppose to eat has won the Simply Fired contest. He says he took a slice of pizza that was left over from a pot-luck by another group in the mortgage company he worked for. He thought the pizza was going to be thrown out. Instead he offended the employees in this group.

Garrison says, "Apparently the employees who threw this pot luck were planning to take it home and were offended by my action. Now I thought we were all basically on the same team and if someone didn't like what I did they would tell me so and I would apologize and maybe offer to pay for the pizza. These employees ended up telling their manager, who told her vice president about what I did."

Garrison did not identify the pizza firing employer. All we know is that it was a mortgage company. This was not a good reason to be fired, but the lesson to take away from this story is that it is best to ask before taking food at work.
