Dutch Mandel Named Editor of AutoWeek

Posted on January 6, 1998

Dutch Mandel, AutoWeek magazine associate publisher, has been named editor/associate publisher of AutoWeek, the nation's largest weekly enthusiast car magazine.

The announcement was made by Crain Communications Chairman Keith Crain. ``In many ways, Dutch has been preparing for this role all his business life,'' Crain said. ``He brings insight of the enthusiast car market, a kinship with AutoWeek's highly involved consumer magazine reader and an institutional memory that greatly benefits our most passionate audience. I can think of no better person than Dutch to lead the magazine into its 40th year and beyond.

``To return to the editorial side, while uncommon, is not unheard of,'' said Crain. ``Dutch has learned an incredible amount about the business of magazines and the automotive business, and is uniquely qualified to be AutoWeek's editor.''

Mandel replaces Matthew DeLorenzo, AutoWeek editor for eight years, who is joining Road & Track magazine.

Mandel, 39, has been the magazine's advertising director and associate publisher for the past three years. He moves back to the editorial side of the aisle following a six-year stint in advertising sales for several Crain Communications titles, including Crain's Detroit Business, Detroit Monthly and Automotive News.

AutoWeek has a weekly circulation of 300,000. Also part of the AutoWeek Group are AutoWeek's Official Racing Fan Guide; AutoWeek's Guide to Ultimate Car Places; AutoWeek's Buyers Guide; AutoWeek on SPEEDVISION; AutoWeek's Web site, http://www.AutoWeek.com; and AutoWeek's Design Forum.
