Corporate Messages Hit the Blogosphere

Posted on February 4, 2005

Fast Company has a short feature on an emerging trend: the executive blog. Fast Company says, "Corporate bigwigs get to say whatever they want, whenever — and to imagine that everyone is reading."

In the feature they mention blogs written by executives: George Soros, Chairman, Soros Fund Management LLC; Jonathan Schwartz, President and COO, Sun Microsystems Inc.; and Craig Newmark, Founder, craigslist.org.

Some other executives blogs not mentioned in the article include Fastlane, written by GM executives; Randy's Journal, written by Randy Baseler, Vice President of Marketing for Boeing Commercial Airplanes; and Internet Media Commentary, a weblog by Jupitermedia's CEO Alan Meckler, who has been blogging since December, 2003.

Some more links to executive blogs can be found on the CEO Bloggers' Club blog. The number of blogging CEOs is likely to increase but it may not become pervasive. One major issue holding CEOs back from blogging in the corporate world are legal concerns.
