Company Adds Sound Effects to Ebooks

The New York Times reports that a New York-based startup, named Booktrack, plans to release ebooks with soundtracks. The first ebook to feature a Booktrack soundtrack will be The Power of Six from HarperCollins. Classics including Jane Eyre and The Three Musketeers will also be released as ebooks with sound effects.

Here is a video from Soundtrack that explains how sounds effects, such as a humpback whale, heartbeat, footsteps, crackling fire, or a song, play along as the reader reads the ebook. Some limited sound effects might be ok, but it is going to very distracting to readers if songs are playing in the background. Take a look:
