Community of Science Releases New Online Journals

Community of Science, (COS), announced that is has released full-text, World Wide Web versions of two clinical medicine journals that were previously available only in print. Journal of Vascular Surgery was released online in early December 1997; Gastrointestinal Endoscopy was made available online on January 22. Free trial access to both online journals is available during the first quarter of 1998.

Like all online journals offered by COS on the Web, Journal of Vascular Surgery and Gastrointestinal Endoscopy are displayed in HTML with full text, tables, and images. They also include hyperlinks within the contents of an article or issue, as well as from journal content to outside sources such as Medline. With its exclusive automated journal publishing technologies, COS creates the online publication on-the-fly, directly out of a database of the typesetting or SGML file that is used to produce the print journal. As a result, the hyperlinks are dynamically generated each time a user clicks on them, providing immediate and current links to additional relevant information.

Journal of Vascular Surgery is the official journal of the Society for Vascular Surgery and the International Society for Cardiovascular Surgery. Gastrointestinal Endoscopy is sponsored by the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Both journals are published by Mosby-Year Book, Inc. Like the print versions, the online journals are published monthly.
