Collegeweb.com Launches Online Community
Posted on August 18, 1998
CollegeWeb Inc. announced the launch of CollegeWeb.com, a college community on the Internet. CollegeWeb.com will gather all of its content through on-line submissions from its members. CollegeWeb has recruited a nationwide staff of college writers, college bands, fiction authors, poets, artists and students abroad to deliver content on an international scale.
"This is the first community of its kind," said Alex Chriss, President and CEO of CollegeWeb Inc., "we plan on creating something fun, cool and intelligent for college students throughout the United States. Our mission is to bring this group together and create a cohesive environment to share the college experience across different campuses. CollegeWeb is a great way for students to get involved on a national level."
CollegeWeb.com differentiates itself from other "communities" by both the content and management of the site. The content is created and updated daily by college students. Students will also take a leadership role in managing the daily operations of the business. "By allowing students the opportunity to author the content and mold the site features, we have created a new genre of web site. Our visitors are not merely audience members absorbing what we feed them, they are active participants with control over the entire experience," Chriss said. "With this new freedom of expression and interactive possibilities, I think we will find that students are far more insightful and intelligent than their 'beer drinking' stereotype allows."
CollegeWeb.com will feature campus band reviews, breaking news stories from a college student perspective, chat rooms to discuss issues that affect all college students, student art, student fiction, movie reviews, contests, and reports from students abroad. All content is provided and edited by students with their peers in mind.
