Classic Isaac Asimov Books To Be Developed By New Amsterdam Entertainment

Posted on July 21, 1998

New Amsterdam Entertainment, Inc. founders Richard Rubinstein and Mitchell Galin, who produced two hit ABC mini-series' The Stand and The Langoliers, will develop the Asimov project for Sci-Fi Channel and serve as Executive Producers. Rubinstein and Galin are also developing for Sci-Fi Channel a six-hour mini-series based on the Frank Herbert novel Dune.

Based on the first two novels of the "robot" book series from famed science fiction author Asimov, the stories chronicle the unlikely partnership between a New York City detective and a humanoid robot and their challenges in working together.

Caves of Steel tells the story of a New York City police detective, Elijah Baley, who resides on an overpopulated Earth and barley tolerates the arrogant, superior "Spacers" and their robotic companions. But when a prominent "Spacer" is murdered under mysterious circumstances, Baley is ordered to the Outer Worlds to help track down the killer. The situation becomes more strained when Baley is partnered with a humanoid robot, R. Daneel Olivaw, who was made in the image and likeness of the murder victim.

In The Naked Sun, a handful of human colonists on the beautiful Outer World of Solaria lead a hermit-like existence, with their every need attended to by their faithful robot servants. Detective Baley and his robot partner Olivaw, come to this strange and provocative planet to solve an incredible murder that has rocked Solaria to its foundations.
