Boston.com Relaunches with New Site Design

Posted on April 6, 1998

Boston.com will relaunch its website today by introducing an array of features, services and state-of-the-art design to extend and fortify its position as a leading regional news and information online service. The centerpiece of this undertaking is the integration of a Yellow Pages-like business directory into virtually every content page of Boston.com.

Boston.com is now offering a comprehensive directory of businesses in the region, with individual maps and directions. With the new design, Boston.com is able to match each user's downloaded page with specific businesses that offer related services or products. So, for consumers seeking information about autos, or real estate, or dining, each of those content pages will be matched with Boston-area businesses that cater to those needs, such as auto repair shops, Realtors and restaurants.

"This relaunch is the single most exciting thing we've done since the launch of Boston.com in 1995," said Stephen E. Taylor, president of the Boston Globe Electronic Publishing Co., owner of Boston.com. "Just as The Boston Globe has been for 125 years the trusted publisher in Boston, it is gratifying to see Boston.com assume that role in the online world."

Boston.com is a service of The Boston Globe, a wholly owned subsidiary of The New York Times Company, a diversified media company including newspapers, magazines, television and radio stations, and electronic information and publishing.
