Bitstream Launches Web Typography Center
Posted on March 18, 1998
Bitstream Inc. announced the launch of Truedoc, a web typography center. The new site provides a free set of dynamic fonts, complete with step-by-step instructions on how to use them in individual web pages. Also included are information and tutorials on how web typography works and how to use fonts in web pages. The site also provides examples; "test drive" on dynamic fonts, Tips on Type; and frequently asked questions (FAQs).
The site was announced at the Seybold Seminars show in New York. Dynamic fonts, one of the latest developments in HTML design, put more creative power in web authors' hands. Instead of relying on the default fonts that users have in their browsers -- fonts like Times New Roman and Arial--web authors can now create pages using the fonts they have on their systems, with the assurance that those pages will display in a browser with their font formatting intact.
"As one of the first independent digital font foundries, Bitstream strives to provide quality typeface designs and leading-edge font technologies to address the needs of the graphics communications industry," said Jim Welch, Director of Worldwide Marketing of Bitstream's Type and Technology Division. "Fonts play an integral role in the design of both printed and electronic material. Bitstream TrueDoc provides the font portability and fidelity needed for web publishing."
Bitstream, headquartered in Cambridge Massachusetts, develops, markets and supports software technologies and applications for the graphics communications industry. Through its Type and Technology Division, Bitstream licenses leading text imaging and page layout technologies, such as Bitstream TrueDoc, Bitstream JET and Bitstream NuDoc, to hundreds of independent developers.
