Bigwords.com Enters the College Textbook Market

Posted on August 31, 1998

Bigwords.com announced the launch of an Internet bookstore that sells and rents new and used textbooks to college students anywhere. College students pay more than $5 billion annually for their textbooks (according to NACS), yet most complain about selection, availability and price. Bigwords.com has established relationships with major textbook publishers and distributors to create a comprehensive selection of new and used books available. The site has more than 2.5 million titles.

"College students need a break. They've been standing in line for over a hundred years, paying top dollar and putting up with limited availability," said Bigwords.com founder and president, Matt Johnson. "Bigwords.com is the student-friendly alternative. With our huge inventory, great discounts, and innovative rental program, students get what they need on their terms."

When students choose the rental program they will be charged 60% of the cost of the book, and a deposit equal to the other 40%. At the end of the quarter when they return the book postage pre-paid, their charge card will be credited, or they can receive Bigwords credit, or even a check in the mail.
