BBC Music Magazine Announces Classical Music Awards

Posted on October 5, 1998

Graeme Kay, editor of BBC Music Magazine, announced the establishment of the Classical Music Awards in the United States beginning in the year 2000. In a speech given at a celebration to announce the publishing arrival of BBC Music Magazine in North America, Kay said, "Based here in the United States, the awards will take advantage of BBC Music Magazine's world overview to seek out, reward and promote the best events, the top recordings, outstanding musicians and the most innovative projects - the final selections being undertaken by a distinguished international jury."

The categories will be based on three areas: Recordings, Artists and Musical Broadcasts and Events. Graeme Kay will chair the three judging panels. The readers of BBC Music Magazine will also have a voice. One reader will win a place on one of the panels and the Magazine's readership will vote for Artist of the Year. In addition, all readers votes will appear alongside the panel's in an annual Awards issue.
