Banned Books Week Includes BookWire Feature

Posted on September 18, 1997

With Banned Books Week approaching, BookWire will explore issues raised by this week-long event in a star-studded special section featuring original essays by some of today's most prominent writers, a comprehensive list of links to the best banned book information on the Web (including sites with complete texts of banned books) and an ongoing readers' bulletin board. The feature launches Saturday, September 19; Banned Books Week is September 20-27.

A highlight of BookWire's feature will be a massive timeline charting the history of banned books in America. Also, BookWire's Banned Books Bulletin Board has been gathering readers' comments on banned books for weeks and will continue to post reactions and opinions.

"As an Internet resource for publishing we're in a unique position to gather opinions from all over the globe on the subject of banned books," said BookWire president Jamey Bennett. "I think everyone connected to book publishing realizes the importance of educated choice, and this event forces us to examine issues we often take for granted."
