Posted on February 12, 1998
Save the Children, one of the world's largest and most effective relief and development organizations, was recognized for excellence in Internet communications at the Second Annual Conference on Nonprofits and the Internet held on January 30, 1998 in Washington D.C.
Selected from hundreds of entrants, the winners in six categories of awards were announced at the end of the conference, which brought together some 500 nonprofit leaders to examine strategies for using the Internet for service delivery, fundraising and marketing activities.
"This prestigious award," says Save the Children President Charles MacCormack," means that we are really getting the word out to the public about Save the Children’s effective, successful and important work on behalf of disadvantaged children here in the U.S. and abroad. When we succeed in attracting new supporters, we increase the number of children we can help and the number of quality community development programs we can implement. And this is very good news indeed for the 800 million children who go to bed sick, hungry and poor each night."
Save the Children's mission is to create lasting, positive change in the lives of disadvantaged children. The nonprofit, nonsectarian organization currently works in 40 countries worldwide, including the United States operating self-help programs in education, health, economic opportunities, and humanitarian assistance. In the United States, its efforts focus on providing guidance, support, and supervision to children during their out-of-school hours. Save the Children is a member of the International Save the Children Alliance, one of the world’s largest partnerships of child-assistance organizations working on behalf of children in more than 100 countries worldwide.
