ASJA and iUniverse.com Announce Business Alliance

Posted on May 5, 2000

The American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA), and eBook publisher iUniverse.com have announced a new business alliance. ASJA president Samuel Greengard said that the new alliance with iUniverse.com will enable ASJA to create an imprint for the publication, distribution and marketing of ASJA members' books as well as for a line of books on writing to be created by ASJA itself. iUniverse.com will provide print-on-demand services, Internet links and marketing expertise.

``This is an exciting opportunity for ASJA members to expand their publishing horizons,'' Greengard said. ``New technology is changing the book publishing business and iUniverse.com represents an innovative way to manage the publishing process.''

``Authors will benefit as they gain more control over publishing their book,'' said iUniverse.com CEO, Richard Tam. ``This partnership with the ASJA reinforces our commitment to opening new opportunities for authors.''

Greengard announced the new alliance today at ASJA's Annual Members' Meeting, held at the New York Hilton. The agreement with iUniverse.com represents the fruition of an idea conceived by author Shirley Camper Soman, a longtime ASJA member, and others on the ASJA Publishing Committee.

``It's absolutely thrilling that, after a long year, this pioneering program is at last a reality,'' said Shirley Camper Soman. ``I cheer the members of the Publishing Committee and ASJA's forward-looking President and Board of Directors.''

Founded in 1948, ASJA is an international organization of more than 1,000 independent writers of nonfiction books and magazine articles. Membership is limited to writers who have met ASJA's standards of professional achievement.
