Ann Godoff Named President and Editor-in-Chief of Random House Trade Publishing Group

Ann Godoff has been appointed President and Editor-in-Chief of the Random House Trade Publishing Group, effective December 1st. She has also been named an Executive Vice President of Random House Inc. and a member of the Executive Committee. She succeeds Harold Evans, who is leaving the company to become Editorial Director and Vice Chairman of U.S. News and World Report, The Daily News, and The Atlantic Monthly. The announcement was made today by Alberto Vitale, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Random House Inc., to whom she will report.

Ms. Godoff is currently Editor-in-Chief of Random House Adult Trade Books and Executive Vice President of the Random House Trade Publishing Group. The Random House Trade Publishing Group includes Random House Adult Trade Books, Villard Books, and The Modern Library. It is a division of Random House Inc., the world's largest English-language general trade book publisher.

In the six years since Ms. Godoff joined Random House, she has steadily acquired a succession of impressive books -- including John Berendt's Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil which has been on the New York Times bestseller list for 176 weeks and is currently the #1 nonfiction hardcover book in America. Among the other authors she has acquired and edited are Tina Rosenberg (winner of both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award for Haunted Land), Naomi Wolf, Ron Chernow, Julie Salamon, Roger Lowenstein, Michael Pollan, Jeff Toobin, Caleb Carr, Nathan McCall, James Hillman, and 1997 Booker Award winner Arundhati Roy.
