ANG Newspapers Announces Acquisition of the Pacifica Tribune

Posted on September 9, 1998

ANG Newspapers, publishers of The Oakland Tribune and six other Bay Area dailies including the San Mateo County Times, has expanded its reach on the San Francisco Peninsula by acquiring The Pacifica Tribune and The Wave. Both publications were sold by Houston-based Main Street Media.

"The Pacifica Tribune and The Wave fit perfectly into our company," said Scott McKibben, President and Publisher of ANG Newspapers. "We're pleased to add another strong local voice like the Tribune to our family of Bay Area newspapers because it reinforces our commitment to delivering all the relevant local news to the Bay Area communities we serve."

The Pacifica Tribune, with a paid circulation of 7,729, and The Wave, with its free circulation of 5,300, reach 89% of Pacifica households. The new weeklies join ANG Newspapers' growing roster of local publications such as the San Mateo County Times and its network of Peninsula weeklies, including the Pacifica Coastside Chronicle. "The synergies now available to all of our newspapers on the Peninsula will be a big help for both the Tribune and the Wave," said McKibben.
