Ancient City Of Alexandria Explored in a New Website

Posted on November 2, 1998

The Society for Underwater Exploration made its public debut with the launch of a global website chronicling the latest underwater discoveries in the ancient, Lost City of Alexandria. The Society is headed by Franck Goddio, the renowned French marine archaeologist.

The goal of the new Society for Underwater Exploration is to inform and involve the public in the fascinating field of marine archaeology. Its global activities involve research, exploration, discovery, excavation and preservation of shipwrecks, lost cities, and other underwater mysteries of special historical and cultural significance.

The Society provides an array of timely information through its website, television programming, books, CD-Roms and other media. The Society -- as well as its website -- was born out of Goddio's desire to bring his, and his team's, exciting discoveries to the public in a more global way. The launch of the site places special focus on revealing the latest discoveries involving Cleopatra's Palace in the ancient Royal City of Alexandria and the excavations of the wreckage of sunken ships from Napoleon Bonaparte's fleet in nearby Aboukir.
