American Lawyer Media, Inc. announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to purchase substantially all the assets of Legal Communications, Ltd. -- publisher of the Philadelphia-based daily newspaper The Legal Intelligencer, the statewide newspaper Pennsylvania Law Weekly, and other law-related publications and directories -- from Meridian Venture Partners, a private equity investment fund based in Radnor, PA.

William L. Pollak, President and Chief Executive Officer of American Lawyer Media, said that, "by acquiring Legal Communications, we have added to our pool the preeminent legal publications in one of the largest legal markets. We are thrilled with the deal and look forward to incorporating our new properties into our strategy for continued growth."

Jane Seagrave, president of Legal Communications, Ltd., will remain with American Lawyer Media, serving as President and Publisher of what will become the company's Philadelphia division. Ms. Seagrave said, "I am delighted to become part of a national organization with such a strong commitment to local legal publishing. With the resources of American Lawyer Media behind us, we can offer more value to our Pennsylvania subscribers and more options to our advertisers."
