American Interactive Media to Launch ComedyNet Comedy Network

American Interactive Media, Inc. announced the launch of a new 24-hour comedy network. ComedyNet will premiere May 1, 1998 online as part of a planned multi-phase migration strategy to include broadband, cable, satellite and other digital and interactive platforms in 1999. The unveiling of the content and marketing components will take place at The National Cable Television Association (NCTA) convention according to Mark Graff, president of AIME.
ComedyNet is designed to showcase the best comedic talent in a variety of forms, including stand-up, sketches, animation and improvisation. Programming will be rotated in short form blocks. The service will also include interactive components, including gaming, chat and dynamic repartee.
Veteran comedian David Brenner has been signed as a corporate spokesperson. He will be present at the NCTA convention with ComedyNet marketing staff in meetings with potential cable affiliates. Brenner will also make a series of public appearances to launch the network and introduce the public to the ComedyNet concept.
