2012 Golden Kite Award Winners Announced

The Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators has announced the winners of the 2012 Golden Kite Awards. The annual awards, which recognize excellence in children's literature, include a cash prize of $2,500 to the author and illustrator winners in four categories. Here is a list of this year's winners:
- Fiction: Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys (Philomel)
- Nonfiction: Amelia Lost: The Life and Disappearance of Amelia Earhart by Candace Fleming (Schwartz & Wade)
- Picture Book Text: Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner, illustrated by Christopher Silas Neal (Chronicle Books)
- Picture Book Illustration: Balloons Over Broadway by Melissa Sweet (Houghton Mifflin)
