The 1998 Palm Springs Writers Conference
April 16 - 19
The Palm Springs Writers Conference was founded by working writers to teach the writing of publishable fiction and non-fiction to students of all levels. Beginners are welcome and close student/faculty contact is encouraged.

The Fifth Annual Read In!
April 24
The Read In! is a day-long reading project for children ages 5-18 in grades K-12. It incorporates and integrates the Language Arts Curriculum and telecommunications into a worthwhile educational collaboration among peers throughout North America and the world. Kindergarten through twelfth graders across North America and around the globe gather together by modem prior to and during the day of the project.

AWU 1998 Writers' Conference

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Six speakers - a publisher (Artes Publico), a literary agent (Jim Hornfischer), a literary attorney (Tom Doyal), and three writers - Diane Bertrand, Cindi Myers, and Susan Cooper. Cost is $40 to members and $50 to non-members. Lunch included.

National Writers Workshop
Orlando Sentinel/Poynter Institute

The National Writers' Workshop at the Orlando Marriott Downtown, April 25 and 26, will feature 35 prominent journalists talking about the craft of writing and editing. Registration is only $65. 27th ASJA Writers' Conference East
May 2-3
Pete Hamill and Peter Maas head the roster of notable writers scheduled to address the 27th edition of the annual Writers' Conference East sponsored by the American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA), the national independent writers' organization, which turns 50 this year. The two will be the featured Saturday luncheon speakers at the May 2-3 event, to be held at the Crowne Plaza hotel on New York's Times Square.

World Wide Writers is seeking entrants for its new quarterly writing competitions.

Mattel is looking for unusual and creative rules to its game, UNO, that build off the current rules and enhance game play, yet are simple enough to be easily adopted by UNO players everywhere. The grand prize is $5,000 dollars . The deadline for the UNO contest is May 15, 1998.
