National Lampoon and Rugged Land Launch Book Imprint

Posted on October 25, 2002

National Lampoon, the company which created the National Lampoon humor magazine, announced the formation of National Lampoon Books, an imprint of Rugged Land, LLC. The agreement calls for the release of six National Lampoon books through 2005.

The inaugural National Lampoon title will be the 1964 High School Yearbook, 39th Reunion Edition. In 1974 the popular parody, which sold over 2 million copies, was edited by Doug Kenney, one of the original Lampoon editors, and PJ O'Rourke, a popular humorist. Scheduled for an October 2003 release, the updated Yearbook will include a "Where are they now?" addendum.

National Lampoon Executive Vice President Doug Bennett said, "When we started our search for a publishing partner, our main criteria were focus and enthusiasm. Rugged Land is a mini-major publisher that can help us realize our mission to serve both young and old fans of National Lampoon."

National Lampoon is active in a broad array of entertainment activities, including feature films, television programming, interactive entertainment, home video, comedy audio CD's and book publishing. The company also owns interests in all major National Lampoon properties including National Lampoon's Animal House, the National Lampoon Vacation series, and National Lampoon's Van Wilder.
