The John Steinbeck Award for Fiction is a short-story contest open to fiction submissions of up to 5,000 words. The contest is run by Reed magazine. It is named after the Nobel Prize-winning American author.

There is a $20 reading fee to enter the contest. This is includes a free copy of the latest issue of Reed. The winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize.

The guidelines specify that stories should be formatted in double-spaced 12-point font with word count and a brief bio included. You can submit through Reed's Submittable form which can be found in the literary journal's "Submit" section.
