Twitter Passes 200 Million Accounts

Posted on April 29, 2011

Marshall Kirkpatrick at ReadWriteWeb reports that Twitter has passed the 200 million accounts plateau. This is not active accounts, just the total number of accounts created. ReadWriteWeb says the number was confirmed by Katie Stanton, Twitter's VP of International Strategy, at the Guardian Activate conference.

Twitter also revealed at the conference that much of its web traffic comes from outside the U.S. - over 70%. 25% of its tweets come from Japan. The global microblogging service also announced this week that it is available in Russian and Turkish.
