Twitter Acquires Backtype Analytics Service

Twitter has acquired BackType. The company runs Backtweets, a website that offers Twitter analytics. Backtweets also provide a search tool that shares information about tweets to a given domain. BackType says Backtweets will now be offered for free, but it will no longer accept new signups. The API is being discontinued.

BackType announced the acquisition on its blog. The company says it is bringing its technology to Twitter. Backtype believes its realtime processing technology, called Storm, will have a big impact at Twitter.
