Shel Silverstein The Giving Tree

HarperCollins will release Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree as an ebook for the first time. There are over 10 million copies of the book in print worldwide. The popular children's story begins, "Once there was a tree ... and she loved a little boy."

The Hollywood Reporter reports that the Feb. 18 ebook release date celebrates the 50th anniversary of Silverstein's most prolific year. Four of his works were released in 1964. The book can be pre-ordered on Amazon.com.

Mitch Myers, Silverstein's nephew and archivist, told THR, "It was important to make this amazing book available to kids who primarily use e-readers and tablets and wouldn't see it otherwise."
