MSNBC.com Launches PencilNews

MSNBC.com has announced the addition of PencilNews, an Internet-based news service for children. This new area, created by MSNBC.com, caters to today's younger Internet users providing access to daily news coverage and current events that are explained with age appropriate language. PencilNews includes rich graphics and multimedia news presentations designed specifically for younger children. The PencilNews staff includes educators, parents, and journalists.
"More and more of today's children are using the Internet at home and at school as a informational resource and learning tool," stated Bob Aglow, executive producer of news for MSNBC.com. "We recognize the importance of providing a news area specifically designed for the younger set that explains major national and international events in an easy-to-understand manner."
The site will feature news pulled from the day's headlines, news briefs, sports and a special Today in History package. On Mondays, the site will feature a "mystery" photo with an interactive live vote quiz. PencilNews on MSNBC.com will also provide interactive learning activities for users as well as contributions from kids, parents and grandparents.
