Posted on May 2, 2011

Twitter says last night's White House announcement by President Obama that Osama Bin Laden had been killed generated the highest sustained tweet rate ever on Twitter. Twitter averaged 3440 tweets per second from 10:45 to 12:30pm ET last night. TechCrunch says the night's tweet per second peak of 5,106 beat out Super Bowl 2011 but not New Year's Eve 2010 (which had 6,939 TPS).
