Florida Christian Writers Conference
January 29 - February 1, 1999
This conference offers instruction and marketing opportunities to writers at different levels -- beginning, intermediate, advanced, and professional. Writers attend continuing classes and elective workshops, interact one-on-one with editors, and "talk shop" with fellow writers.

Waterside Productions Publishing Conference
February 11 - 13, 1999
Each year the Waterside Conference attracts the most distinguished individuals in the computer book publishing industry. These people come together each year to experience three days of informative lectures, panels and workshops, and discuss the industry's most relevant issues.

This year's speakers will include Brenda McLaughlin of IDG Books Worldwide, Jordan Gold of Sybex, Inc., Terry Dwyer of Macmillan Education and Training, Tim O'Reilly of O'Reilly and Associates, Keith Weiskamp of The Coriolis Group, and several other presenters and panelists speaking on such hot topics as Print-on-Demand Publishing, eBooks, Digital Libraries, the Open-source movement and many others.

Writing in the New Millennium
Gulf Coast Chapter of the National Writers Association
February 26-27, 1999
Sol Stein, author of “Stein on Writing,” will address The 19th Annual Southwest Florida Writers Conference in Fort Myers, Florida. The two day conference, “Writing in The New Millennium,” presented by The Gulf Coast Chapter of The National Writers Association and Edison Community College in Fort Myers, Florida, on February 26-27, 1999. A conference filled with solutions, not theory, for writers who wish to improve their writing and become published.

SleuthFest 6th Fest
March 18 - 21, 1999
Sleuth Fest is a conference for writers of mystery, suspense and true crime novels. Conference March 18 - 21, 1999 at the Clarion Hotel on Hollywood Beach, FL. Lee Goldberg, author, Executive Producer and Head Writer of one of television's hottest and longest running TV series, will be the guest speaker at the Saturday night banquet. The evening's program will begin with the screening of an unaired, or recent, episode of Diagnosis Murder. Following dinner, Lee will talk about how a TV series episode is created, written, and produced, and about television series in general.

Contests

--Beginning November 20, 1998, TNT's Roughcut.com hosts The Screenplay Challenge, a 10-week online round-robin screenwriting project that allows contributors to continue an original screenplay started by Hollywood screenwriter Pen Densham (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Moll Flanders, Backdraft). Each week, a panel of judges will select the best submission and post that chapter on the site. In addition to the opportunity to collaborate with Densham and publish online, each winner will be awarded $100.00 and the chance to win the Grand Prize -- a new laptop computer from which to write his or her next screenplay. Densham will write the final chapter.
