Subject: Rights

This seems like an obvious question for a new writer, but I have had trouble finding the answer:

Is there somewhere/someone that can tell me what the differences are between the various Rights? For example I see publishers offering to buy First North American Serial Rights, and others offering to buy First World Rights, etc.

I'm just curious about each of these and how I can best protect myself as well as sell/rent these rights, as the author, for maximum profit.

Thank you!

Dear Doug,

You are wise to be concerned about these issues that are integral to a successful writing career. You should read the following two articles from The Internet Writing Journal TM that cover this topic. The articles are: Basic Copyright Concepts for Writers and A Novice Writer's Guide to Rights. Good luck and thanks for writing!
