BBC Worldwide Acquires Lonely Planet

The Guardian reports that BBC Worldwide has paid $68 million to acquire 25% of Lonely Planet, giving it complete ownership of the travel guide publishers. BBC Worldwide purchased the other 75% of Lonely Planet in 2007.

Lonely Planet cut 50 positions in 2009. However, Lonely Planet has seen strong growth in its digital editions over the couple years.

PaidContent reports that BBC Worldwide is now seeking an online partner to expand Lonely Planet's web content.
