Medical Writing

Medical writers create documents describing medical research, drugs and medical devices. Some documents medical writers create include brochures explaining drugs and medical procedures and sales materials for drug companies. Medical writers also create more complex documents that are meant for regulatory agencies.

The pharmaceutical industry employs a large number of medical writers. A related field, medical transcriptionist, involves transcribing dialogue from doctors and healthcare industry professionals.

Some medical writers get started in the medical field and have a medical or scientific degree. Other medical writers get a journalism or related degree and branch into health and medical writing. There are also medical communication degrees offered by some colleges and universities.
