The Strand Magazine Publishes Previously Unseen Tennessee Williams Story

Posted on April 6, 2014

The Strand Magazine has published a previously unseen and unpublished story by Tennessee Williams. The story, called "Crazy Night," is published Issue 42 of the magazine. Williams is best known for his plays, such as A Streetcar Named Desire and Cat on a Hat Tin Roof. Williams also wrote short stories, poems and essays.

Williams was in this early 20s when he wrote "Crazy Night." BBC News reports that the story involves a college freshman's encounter with a student named Anna Jean. The name Anna Jean has been linked to Anna Jean O'Donnnell, a girl Williams dated while he was at the University of Missouri.

CNN reports that The Strand managing editor Andrew F. Gulli found the 14-page manuscript for "Crazy Night" at the University of Texas at Austin's Harry Ransom Center. CNN says Gulli uncovered a "treasure trove" of papers and documents by Williams at the Center.
