Description: Business Start-Ups is the magazine for young (23 to 35) entrepreneurs

Editor(s): Karen E. Spaeder

Needs: We are looking for writers with good reporting skills who can write about business in a fun, nonstuffy way. Our readers, tech-savvy and creative, want a lot of information fast and like to read about real entrepreneurs who are doing what we write about._x000D_

Length: Features: 1,500-1,800; department articles: 650-1,500

Rights: First serial rights

Payment: Pays on acceptance, $500-$750 per feature; $400-$600 per department article; $200-$300 per short piece. Authors handle major revisions, receive byline and bio, see prepublication galleys.

Tips: I love it when a writer can take an assignment and run with it, coming up with angles I had not thought of. The biggest problem is vagueness and generality in writing. When readers finish an article, they shouldn't say "Well, duh." They should have learned specific steps to take, places to go, ideas to use. Another problem is not being able to write from the mindset of a young person--not being able to write in an interesting way without talking down to our readers.

How to Submit: Write to or 2445 McCabe Way, Irvine, CA 92614 (with SASE), and request guidelines. Full-length manuscripts are discouraged. Read the magazine to get an idea of our style; sample copy available.

Address: 2445 McCabe Way Irvine CA 92614 USA
