Description: The literary publication was founded by graduate students in the MFA Program in Creative Writing at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. It is named after the river that borders the school.

Needs: Black Warrior Review publishes fiction, nonfiction, poetry, comics, and art.

Payment: one-year subscription and a nominal lump-sum fee

Tips: BWR reads general fiction, nonfiction, and poetry submissions from December 1 – March 1 and June 1 – September 1. BWR also has online editions so be sure to also read the separate guidelines.

How to Submit: BWR only accepts submissions through Submittable. There is a $3 submission fee. Don't submit previously published work. Simultaneous submissions are allowed but indicate it is a simultaneous submission and immediately notify if your work is accepted elsewhere.
