Yahoo News To Offer Paid Archives From

New York Times Digital, the digital business unit of The New York Times Company, and Yahoo! Inc., a global Internet company, announced that paid archives from are now available on Yahoo! News. This agreement with marks the first premium archived news service offered by Yahoo!. Yahoo! has launched numerous fee-based services over the past year from premium content to online bill paying services to web hosting.

Relevant search results will appear as a paid archive and branded as content from The New York Times. Archived articles dating back to January 1, 2000 may be purchased for $2.50 each, the same price as single archive units on, and users will complete the transaction on Yahoo! News. In addition, top current news from will continue to be available through Yahoo! News for free.

"This partnership is an important step in our premium content strategy at NYTD," said Catherine Levene, vice president of strategy and business development for New York Times Digital. "Consumers on Yahoo! News will now be able to access the historical resources available in The New York Times archive at the precise moment they are looking for relevant information. It also extends the reach of our brand and high-quality premium content offerings to the large audience accessing Yahoo! News."

Like Yahoo, the New York Times Digital has also launched a number of premium services in recent months. now offers paid streaming videos of The New York Times Critic's Choice events, featuring interviews with Lou Reed, Martin Scorsese and John Irving. And this spring, the Times' website introduced a paid personals section. The New York Times also offers fee-based access to its news archives on its website.
