Torstar Announces Sale Of Troll Communications

Torstar Corporation has announced the signing of an agreement to sell Troll Communications for U.S. $70 million to Willis Stein & Partners, L.P., a Chicago-based investment firm. The transaction is expected to close by the end of the first quarter of 1999. Troll Communications is a leading publisher of children's books operating major School Book Clubs, Book Fairs and direct mail programs for children, teachers and schools.

Torstar Corporation is a broadly based publishing company. Its operations include The Toronto Star, Canada's largest daily newspaper; Metroland Printing, Publishing & Distributing, publishers of community newspapers and distributors of advertising materials; Harlequin Enterprises, publisher of series romance fiction; the Children's Supplementary Educational Publishing Division, which publishes and produces educational products for teachers, parents and children under the Frank Schaffer, Tom Snyder Productions, Delta Education and Brighter Vision names; and a 39 percent interest in ITI Education, an information technology education institution.
