TMS and iVillage Take Syndicated Health Care Column to the Web

Posted on February 6, 1998

Tribune Media Services and iVillage launched The Family Doctor Online, an online health information resource based on a long-running syndicated newspaper column. The Family Doctor Online will be showcased in Booths 18 & 19 at Interactive Newspapers, February 4-7 in Seattle.

The site features columns by Dr. Allen Douma, noted consumer health care expert and cofounder of iVillage's Better Health & Medical Network, one of the most popular online health communities on the Internet.

A combination of practical medical advice in question-and-answer format, expert commentary and the latest health industry news, The Family Doctor Online Web site offers newspaper readers and Internet users detailed information not covered in the printed column. The site features links to information relevant to the day's topic, related chats and message boards, and an archive of previous columns. Consumers can submit questions to Dr. Douma from the site via e-mail. The Family Doctor Online Web site will be offered to subscribers of the print column at no additional charge.

Dr. Allen Douma has a medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He has held positions as a family practitioner and an emergency room physician. He has nearly 20 years of professional experience designing, implementing and evaluating health education and medical self-care products and services for consumer and professional audiences.
