Reader's Digest and Hasbro Announce Licensing Agreement

Posted on February 1, 2002

Reader's Digest Children's Publishing and Hasbro, Inc. have signed an agreement to publish and distribute books in the U.S. and Canada, based on popular Hasbro, Inc. brands including: Mr. Potato Head, Scrabble and Scrabble Junior, Transformers, Play-Doh, Koosh, Nerf, Monopoly, Monopoly Junior, and Easy-Bake Oven. Beginning in January 2002, Reader's Digest Children's Publishing is planning a Hasbro publishing program featuring board books, novelty books, and hardcover storybooks.

"We welcome the opportunity to create books based on such beloved and classic properties as Mr. Potato Head and Monopoly," said Harold Clarke, Vice President and Publisher, Trade Publishing for Reader's Digest Association. "Hasbro prides themselves on creating the highest quality toys and games, which fits in perfectly with Reader's Digest Children's Publishing strategy of developing new formats driven by the best brands."

"We are thrilled to be teaming up with Reader's Digest Children's Publishing," said Tom Klusaritz, Vice President, World Wide Publishing & New Business Development. "Brands like MR. Potato Head, Scrabble and Play-Doh -- to name a few -- will translate beautifully into books that children will enjoy again and again."

The first title, to be published in March to tie in with the 50th anniversary celebration of Mr. Potato Head, will be Mr. Potato Head Make Your Own Tater Tales Play Book. In Summer 2002, Reader's Digest Children's Publishing will release two additional Mr. Potato Head books, as well as two Scrabble Junior titles.
