Pearson Education Announces Formation of the Pearson Technology Group

Posted on November 22, 1999

Technology publishing leaders Macmillan USA and Pearson Professional and Technical Reference (PTR) have joined forces to form the Pearson Technology Group (PTG). Mark Dalton, President of Pearson PTR, assumes the presidency of the newly formed group and will continue to report to Will Ethridge, Group President Pearson Higher Education and Professional Publishing.

"Together these two businesses, which have deep roots in information technology, computer publishing and engineering, are formidable in their market positions and world-class workforce," emphasized Dalton. "This strategic alignment will allow PTG to share this expertise and the core competencies of Macmillan USA and Pearson PTR across the new enterprise."

Macmillan USA houses such premier imprints as Macmillan Software, Que, Sams, BradyGAMES, Macmillan Reference, and Hayden. Pearson PTR is comprised of imprints Prentice Hall Professional Technical Reference, Peachpit, Addison Wesley Professional, New Riders, Cisco Press and Adobe Press. With the alignment of these two units the Pearson Technology Group will generate approximately $300 million in worldwide revenue, with over 1000 book and software titles published in the year 2000.

"This is very exciting for us because it represents a marriage of two distinct but equal partners one with expertise in consumer markets and one with expertise in professional markets" says Dalton. "The growth figures in our industry are remarkable. The computer book market grew 13% last year and the IT training market is nearly a three billion-dollar industry. PTG is now the one stop shop, poised to meet the demands of customers at every level."
