New York City Celebrates 30 Years of Nikki Giovanni

This May, New York City will honor one of America's most beloved poets, Nikki Giovanni, as she celebrates her 30th anniversary as a published writer. On May 18, 1999, William Morrow and Company will host a lunchtime literary event in Bryant Park entitled New York City Celebrates 30 Years of Nikki Giovanni.

From her first volume of poetry entitled Black Feeling, Black Talk, to her latest collection, Blues: For All the Changes (William Morrow, May 3, 1999), Ms. Giovanni's distinctive style and enduring contribution to literature and literacy have established her amongst this country's most venerated writers. She has more than fourteen volumes of poetry, two books of essays, and four children's books to her credit.

The Event takes place on Tuesday, May 18, 1999 from 12- 2 P.M. at Bryant Park. The event feautures Nikki Giovanni, reading from her work; Queen Latifah; The Nuyorican Poets (1998 National Poetry Slam Champions); and other special guests.
