Miramax Films, Tina Brown and Ronald A. Galotti to Form New Media Venture

Posted on July 9, 1998

Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Co-Chairmen of Miramax Films, Tina Brown, and Ronald A. Galotti announced the formation of a new media venture that will publish a new monthly magazine, produce films and television programming, and publish books. Miramax, Ms. Brown and Mr. Galotti will be partners in the new venture, with Ms. Brown serving as Chairman and Mr. Galotti as President.

Ms. Brown and Mr. Galotti will be leaving their respective positions as Editor of The New Yorker and Vice President of Conde Nast and Publisher of Vogue.

Harvey Weinstein said: "The formation of this new venture fulfills my goal of producing a dramatic act two for Miramax by entering into exciting new areas of creativity with two tremendous partners. Tina Brown is the best editor in the world, with taste and talent that is second to none. She is an innovator who revolutionized the magazine business at both Vanity Fair and The New Yorker and over the years I've moved from being a fan to a friend. Now I couldn't be more thrilled to be forming a business that will allow her to take that genius and also apply it to film, television and books. I am also delighted to become a partner with Ron Galloti, one of the country's most successful magazine publishers as well as a very smart businessman. Together, Tina and Ron are a great one-two punch."

Tina Brown said: "This partnership with Miramax is a unique creative and business opportunity -- to own what we create and to expand our vision into other media. Harvey and Bob Weinstein raised the bar for quality movies, demonstrating that they could reach a commercial audience, and I am very excited about becoming their partner. Harvey, Bob, Ron and I all agree that there is a substantial audience for thoughtful, high-quality movies, books and television programming that is now under-served. Based on our collective experience, we believe we can expand that audience and attract new viewers and readers to our efforts."
